Rehablitation of Concrete Structures with Carbon Fibre Sheets

strengthening concrete beams

Reinforced or prestressed concrete beams may be under-strength because of deficiencies in design, increases in applied loads, loss of prestress or damage due to the effects of collison, corrosion or military operations. Advanced Composite Materials (ACM), such as carbon fibre sheets, are ideally suited to strengthen these beams because the sheets are non-corrosive, have a high strength-to-weight ration, and exhibit excellent fatigue characteristics. The aim of current research is to develop this new technology as a method of strengthening concrete beams in shear and flexure for monotonic and fatigue cyclic loading.
