Jean Lamarre, Ph.D.Associate Professor
Department of History
Jean Lamarre completed his PhD in American History in 1996 at
the University of Montreal under the direction of Bruno Ramirez.
His thesis focused on the emigration of the French Canadians
to Michigan from 1840 to 1914. He teaches American History,
American Foreign Policy, Introduction to the History of Canada
and seminars in Canadian and American social history. He teaches
also courses on Québec History and on the relations
between the United States and Québec.
His research is in the fields of the emigration of French Canadians to the Midwest, French Canadian participation in the American Civil War (1861-1865), American social movements of the Sixties and their relations with those in Quebec. Finally, he is a founding member of the GRIQUERE, an interuniversity research group on the Quebec of the 1960s and its external relations, group that regularly organizes conferences dealing with social movements of the Sixties.
