Experience and Research Interests
I have over twenty years of software development experience in industry, mainly in the areas of nuclear power generation and bulk power transmission. Most of my work has been with safety-related simulation software. My research interests blend my industrial experience with software engineering in looking for methods to improve the quality and maintainability of engineering and scientific based software.
Specific areas of interest:
- Testing:
- identifying testing techniques effective for scientific software
- exploring the oracle and tolerance problem
- creating testing strategies for scientists
- Program Comprehension:
- identifying and validating coding practices that increase the understandability of scientific software
- expanding the ideas of knowledge domains and knowledge transfer as related to software development and maintenance
- Software Reviews:
- refining and validating Task Driven Inspections for scientific software
- adapting review processes to the scientific development environment
- Software Processes and Standards:
- elaborating the differences between scientific software development and development of other types of software
- advising on the creation of quality standards for the development of scientific type software
