Research in the Department of Physics
The Physics department at the Royal Military College pursues research in 3 general fields:
During 2008-2009, research directed by the 16 professors in the physics department produced 24 refereed publications and a total of 78 publications, presentations and reports. The total research funding was over $ 640,000 distributed as follows:
- 8 professors received contracts from DND and other defence research organizations;
- 6 professors received funding from NSERC;
- 12 professors received funding from RMC's own Academic Research Programme (ARP);
- 1 professor received funding from the Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences (CFCAS).
The quality of the research carried out by our professors is indicated by the fact that they serve on numerous MSc and PhD examination committees, serve as adjunct professors at a number of Canadian universities and act as editors, board members and referees of several international scientific journals.
The research quality is also indicated by the following document (page 5), which ranks small universities by department based on publications. Clearly the three RMC Science Departments, as well as Engineering, rank very high on these lists, a clear indication of the breadth of the research excellence of the Faculty. Indeed, overall, RMC is miles ahead of virtually all the other small Canadian Universities.
