Binding of Theses for Graduate Students at RMC
The Royal Military College of Canada Library
Twice a year, in mid-March and mid-September, theses are sent for binding. In order for the library to process a thesis, a total of 5 *single-sided* copies (6 if there is a sponsor ie. a company or organization that is financing the research) plus the original are required. Please ensure that the following forms are included:
- Checklist (.doc format 28kb)
- Subject codes
- Non-exclusive licence to reproduce theses
Of the copies, one is sent to DRDKIM-2 (Director, Research & Development, Knowledge and Information Management) in Ottawa. The remaining are sent to the bindery. When they are returned, one copy is catalogued for the library's circulating collection and the others are sent to the department for distribution as follows:
- 1 copy (with a crest) for the author
- 1 copy for the thesis supervisor
- 1 copy for the department
- 1 copy for the sponsor (if there is one)
The original is sent to be microfilmed for inclusion in the Library and Archives Canada's collection and the Dissertations Abstracts International database. When it is returned, it is sent for binding, then placed in the Massey Library's Special Collections for in-library consultation.
If the author or the department wishes to have additional copies bound, at his/her own expense, please contact the bindery directly to make the arrangements. The additional copies cannot be sent with the set processed by the library. Packaged copies can be left at the library for separate pick-up, but the library is not responsible for these shipments. In the event of problems, the bindery can be reached at:
