RMC Team Wins National Logo Contest

KINGSTON, Ont. – The Canadian Satellite Design Challenge has chosen a design submitted by a cadet from the Royal Military College of Canada as its logo.

This design was chosen from 40 submissions as the logo for the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge (CSDC).

Officer Cadet (OCdt) Victoria Benotto’s submission was chosen from among 40 designs. The logo contest was part of the kick-off for the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge (CSDC).  The aim of the Challenge is for teams of university students (undergraduate and graduate) to design and build an operational small-satellite, based on commercially-available, "off-the-shelf" components.

The logo features a maple leaf with three stars and a pathway leading into the atmosphere. OCdt Benotto says the goal was to represent the competition itself.

“The stars represent Engineering, Science and Arts working together to make it happen,” she said.  “The pathway shows how all the teams are “shooting for the stars” in this competition.”

OCdt Jeff Campbell is the Team Lead at RMC.  He said the team, which is comprised of Science, Engineering and Arts students, was thrilled to hear the result.

“The logo reflects just how much success in a project like this depends on a multidisciplinary approach,” he said. “You have to work together as a team and to do that you need scientists, engineers and all the supporting personnel pulling together.”

The logo will be used on all published CSDC material, with the hope that it will become extensively recognised as the competition unfolds. The winning satellite(s) will be selected in October 2012 and the ultimate goal of the CSDC is to launch the satellite(s) into orbit to conduct research.
